Q1: When did you start making art?
I’ve always been making art of some sort, whether that be through my work (I started my career as a Graphic Designer) or just through sketching. But I’d say I seriously started trying to improve and carve my own furrow around 2003.

Q2: What does inspire you?
Music mostly, or rather vibes and state of minds that music inspires in me. I always work listening to something and it’s always a big influence. I’m also inspired by other art I see – sometimes you can see something and it makes me want to try out new techniques or gives me new perspectives on things.

Q3: What are your techniques?
Brute force and ignorance. Oh, and photoshop.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
I like to create things that evoke a reaction. Whether that be emotional or more shock value.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I seem to gravitate towards darker colours, specifically reds, blacks, anything high contrast I guess. I am trying to break out of that a little, but always feel reds are naturally where I’m most comfortable.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
hmm… just everything really… my anatomy skills are pretty ropey, I think I’d want to improve those hugely.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Just make more art 🙂 or rather, make time to make more art… time is something I find I have in decreasing amounts these days.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of zilla774.
Intense, dark, unconfident.

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
good grief no. I’d describe all my early work as “totally amateur crap that only a mother can love”. But then again I think that describes how I feel about the vast majority of my work.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
Oh god yes. Hugely. I’ve spanned so many styles and techniques (i like trying new stuff) that my work has inevitably changed across the years. There’s a definite thread of “me” going through it however.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
Escapism to a point, but more an expression of deep rooted desires, fears or emotions. Art is as individual and unique for the creator as it is for the viewer. I figure that the only person who has to like what I do is me. If any one else likes it, or gets even a negative reaction, hey that’s great, right?
