Q1: When did you start making art?
I started drawing at the age of six. I would copy metal and rock album covers that I would “barrow” from my sister, comic book covers. Digital painting, I started in 2007 when my brother introduced me to Ps and the Wacom Graphire4 tablet.

Q2: What does inspire you?
I would say our mortality. Knowing one day I will die. Nobody get’s out of this alive.

Q3: What are your techniques?
Currently, I work in Photoshop. It starts with many quick thumbnail sketches before I decide on the exact one. Then I refine the thumbnail into a cleaner sketch. From there I use various texture brushes for a background. Next the block in the values to determine my light sources and shadows. Then just refine the piece to a finished state.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
I bought Manson’s Antichrist Superstar when it came out. When I got home I put it on, and it freaked me out! I had to turn it off and had trouble sleeping. The next day it was fine, but I was hooked. No other album has ever made me feel that way. With my art I want people to get that sort of feeling. Not a scared feeling, or a grossed out feeling, but I want them to experience some sort of emotion in them that it moves them in some way.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
Black and gray. It all starts with values. Color is secondary.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
Being I am self-taught, it would be to learn the core fundamentals better. I want to work more traditionally. In the end I would like to have a large amount of paintings and drawings than hard drives.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I will be starting two large paintings for a local art auction in November.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of RodgerPister.

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
I have all my drawings in storage, but HERE is one of the first digital paintings I made. After watching a tutorial from ImagineFX I painted this.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
I study more, and I paint more clowns.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
Art for me is the one thing, no matter what happens in life, can be taken away from me. It’s a part of me, my voice.
