Q1: When did you start making art?
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t making it. I think when I was around 3-4 years old. I began scribbling away and haven’t really stopped since.

Q2: What does inspire you?
Anything that stimulates my imagination. I think inspiration is to be found everywhere. It’s part of being an artist. It could be something I’ve read or a particularly unusual dream I’ve had. Dreams especially can be very inspiring if I can remember them. There are certain ones that stick with me. Movies, videogames and music are always a reliable source of influence too.

Q3: What are your techniques?
I’m pretty much exclusively digital. It’s just so versatile and with none of the clutter of traditional mediums. I like to experiment with different brushes/tools and software.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
Mystery. I like things with no obvious answer or interpretation. Things that encourage deeper thought or speculation. It can be very abstract and symbolic too. I like to think of surrealism as a sort of reversal of reality, in that the physical form evolves from something subjective…like in a dream.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
It tends to be quite dark and monochrome. Occasionally, I like to contrast neutral colours with something vivid and striking. Red, for example.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
A broader range of compositions perhaps. I’m trying to move into surreal environments and landscapes. Generally, there’s always something I can pick out that I feel needs to be improved or modified. I’m definitely my own worst critic.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
For now, I want to continue perfecting what I do. However, I’d love to experiment with film or 3D at some point.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of Oddly-Spliced.
Unconventional. Sensitive. Perceptive.

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
HERE is the first painting I uploaded to Deviantart that I was happy with. I used the airbrush tool primarily to emphasize the lighting and the smooth motion. I was going for the appearance of something semi-liquefied. It shows the conflict that often occurs between conscious and unconscious thoughts. In this case, anxiety. Objectively there is nothing to fear, but the subconscious instinctively wants to flee.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
As I’ve become more confident in my technique, I have begun to tackle more ambitious subject matter. I like to think I’m developing my ability to bridge the gap between my imagination and reality.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
To me, art is like a language. But it is completely unique to the person. It is a way of communicating something in a way that emphasizes the emotional over the logical or the practical. The world as seen through a subjective lens.
