Q1: When did you start making art?
I have been drawing all my life, though I stopped doing it for a period of 7 years or so while I went through the confused and drawing mill of university. I returned to it about 6 years ago with, much inspired from a stay in Germany and also with moving cities and exploring more in the esoteric

Q2: What does inspire you?
Alot of things of course – figures like Crowley, and Napoleon, the academic artists of the 19th century. Contemporary occult artists like Krosmitin and also artists of the 20th century like Beksinski, Giger, Normamn Lindsay and 19th century print artist Gustave Dore – such a metaphysical weight his work has with its black and white boiling skies, amazing lighting overall. Also battle paintings i really enjoy and get alot from – the dynamism of such works – a floods of bodies all moving shown both in the tension of masses moving in concert and while fighting against other masses of humans.

Q3: What are your techniques?
Mainly digital art using a Wacom drawing tablet to basically hand draw a picture from either a sketch i did on paper or just from putting down alot of colours and brush textures and then just finding somethng in it which gives me a direction with an idea that willl take form.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
Good question, perhaps alot of things or perhaps nothing. I sometimes have a romanticised idea of how some scene played out that i read somewhere or on other occasions i have a spirit or deity in mind which i will put some personal emotion into.
A big feeling though i get, and one that is noticeable when i feel it lacking in my everyday life, is link to the the astral – even just a link to the yetziratic plane which can be a wealth of deceptive and deluding images amongst things. I am not unique in that i think most artists of all forms have this connection, but now i feeel it distinctly and in a way doing art is sometimes me trying to be open to channel or open to the unconscious, which perhaps might explain why personally i find sometimes my initial in-the-moment scribbles to be able to capture something that a later final piece actually fails to do.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I think i find myself always going to the realms of red. Red-scarlet all those colours just really can catch the eye and i love the way in which the levels of saturation for red change with light intensity.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
Alot – if i could do everything in oils i would, but time and space is a big factor plus i like the challenge of trying to find similar effects in digital art.
I would also always like to improve the refinement of my work, and the use of layer masks – i still dont have a strong grasp on these, though i have used them, i still often forget that they are an option and can help immensely, so i am probably a bad digital artist in this regard.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I have many, one i am working on at the moment which i unfortunately am not allowed to say anything about. I have also all my own little plans for illustrated works and also more group shows. One day i would like to have work that is suitable to do for a solo exhibition somewhere.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of Mitchellnolte.
Oh this is the hardest type of question, because whenever one does try to sum up themselves or presume qualities about themselves, invariably they find themselves soon committing the opposite or being the opposite in truth – so then what do i say? Confused, Melancholic, hermetic.

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
It is impossible to perhaps get to my very first work and indeed much was done in derwent pencisl and soft pastel. But this image is one of the first things i did which made me think it might be possible to get somewhere with digital art afterall in terms of wanting express- depict ideas and such. The technique would hav ebeen just a sketch like always and then some colours added with Painter Essentials. I didnt have photoshop then. I did this and though maybe i can do some better Lovecraftian inspired art eventually. The initial sketch was just a red pen i recall and so i just played with its exposure and colour balance and they just some mix of colours, thinkign of coral reefs and tropical fish.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
The use of layers, the pixels per inch, the size of the image – i usally attempt pictures with between 350 and 500 pixels per inch. I have also created alot more of my own brushes.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
It is easily both – but of course what is “reality” if that is just the mundane and the inevitable on the physical plane, then art as escapism is also an opening of the way. In some case though the artist/creative person does not feel so much like they are really making the images and things themselves rather it is just an urge, a compulsion to cast something out of myself and give it a form. Art can be used in magick in this way and in evocation – spirits/forces from the inner planes will seek the easiest form of manifestation and that can be in art sometimes. I should also mention in my inspirations that I really also like the art of surrealists like James Gleeson which can be like automatic drawings combined with the apocalyptic scale of John Martin.
I would like to think art would have something to do with my true will but I cannot be sure of this and it may not have any place as an end but just a fragment of the means. The end is above the abyss and so is beyond my current comprehension.
