Q1: When did you start making art?
Embarrassingly, I was quite a fan of anime when I was a kid. The very visual aspect of anime/ cartoons really appealed to me as a child and it influenced how I saw stories. Naturally, I started drawing by mimicking what I was seeing because the stories intrigued me so much and that led to drawing for fun.
But I only started to take art seriously in high school.

Q2: What does inspire you?
I find inspiration in a number of places. Nature always astounds me, music has become a much bigger inspiration than it originally was, and the biggest inspiration I have is books.

I have a deep love for reading and good stories. The way I feel about books and stories is what ultimately led me into illustration.

Q3: What are your techniques?
Up till last year my main technique was to paint via Photoshop. I’ve recently come to love working in oil paint and have been pushing myself to improve at it, so all my recent work has been done with oil paint on illustration board.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
It really does depend on the story behind the work, I try to focus on communicating the story behind the work or specific character first and foremost and then I make sure that there is some emotional depth in it.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I find that my palette tends towards blues in particular. I think that is because there is such a diversity in how blue paint can be used: saturated, bright, dull, gray, dark. But the color still has a richness and a wistfulness to it.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
My biggest obstacle in improving my work at the moment is just improving my painting and drawing techniques themselves. I think that doing that would really improve the amount of communication that actually takes place in the piece.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Of course! I have a list of paintings that I would like to do. I haven’t decided which one to do next yet but by doing rough compositions I’ll find one whose story is just too captivating to be ignored and that will be the one that goes to paint.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of JynetteTigner.
Driven, Cheerful, and

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
I’m going to have to cheat at this because the very first work I posted on the web has long since been deleted because I found it so terrible (I was 14 or something like that) The first real artwork (that would later be judged because it was for a high school class) can be found HERE. Techniques: playing around with chalk pastels because I was convinced that paint didn’t like me. Feelings: Not many, it was really just a shallow point of my work where I thought that something would look cool and so I drew it.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
I would like to think that everything has changed since then. Techniques, abilities, and most of all concept.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
I find art a mostly form of communication. Art to me personally has always been about challenging myself and improving but there is a serenity that comes from the act of creating as well.
