Q1: When did you start making art?
I always drew in my live, and I did it a lot. But it got lost when I started to do more and more photography. At the age of twelve my father had his first digital-camera, a very cheap one. But I did some good shots with it, in the first years I was concentrated on nature and some self-portraits. And all the time I tried new things with photoshop, probably the first time I used it I was 10. At the age of 18 I bought a bridge-camera, I did the first self-portraits with blood and latex milk and crazy manipulations with photoshop. Finally, Summer 2012 I bought a Nikon d5100, my first dslr (and then one I’m still using). It took a while figure out how that all works. I did some crazy make up- portraits with friends and started to make more self-portraits.

Q2: What does inspire you?
Everything. Musik, Movies. The art from others. But I couldn’t name them, there are everywhere, and everyone is unique. I get inspired from my feelings, too. I had some ideas when I am alone, mostly at night being outside. I like being in nature to get my head free from crap.

Q3: What are your techniques?
I work with a nikon d5100. I use two Lamps for the lightning, or natural light. Sometimes I use strong make up to create an effect or I manipulate with photoshop. I draw a lot in Photoshop to get the look I want, or to emphasize the colors, lights and shadows. I don’t always do it the same way, I’m still learning and exporing new techniques.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
I have various feelings in my pictures. It is mostly a dark overall feeling, sometimes sad, sometimes ironically funny. I also have bright, happy photos. The always returning theme is death, vanitas and fear. But not only in a negative way.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
It is red and blue (black and white count too?). Red because it is such a strong color, it can be harsh and soft at the same time. I often use blood, too (of course fake-blood). The blue I mostly use for the overall atmosphere. But I’m tryin to use new colors, too. I don’t want to repeat everything.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
First, the process of developing an idea. Mostly I’m too impulsive, the picture is not in my head, I don’t know what this is about till it comes to the photographing or the post-process. I want to make more conceptual photography and manipulations. And I want to work with more models, male and female.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Too many. There is so much I want to do, I don’t have enough hands for that. Shooting with different models, doing some self-portraits, and so on.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of Valerie Mrosek.
That’s hard. contrary, many-sided, clear

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
I would show you one of my first works with the old camera, but they got lost because my old pc crashed. This is one from Spring 2012: HERE I did a zombie make up, and tried to get a painting-like picture and a dark atmosphere.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
First, the quality. The technique is mostly the same, painting the face and trying to get a dark atmosphere. But it was probably more sad. The photomanipulations are way better now. And I have more diffrent ideas.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
It is so more than that. It is life, creating your reality. Creating something personal, growing with every piece of art and knowing that there are people who appreciate that and make it to their own art with their minds. It is like growing children. Art is a piece of yourself, put into something materialistic. Either are that feelings, opinions, dreams, or how you see the world. You want to get notified to get to know that you’re real. That’s human life. Did I described the essence of life? Who knows. Just another opinion.
