year of birth: 1988
Q1: When did you start making art?
I started drawing when I was in early school. Nothing fancy though. Just pen and the back of my notepad while beeing bored during classes. I started really drawing everyday about 2,5 years ago.
Q2: What does inspire you?
Many different things. Books, Music, Great Artists, Comics, Light, shadow, Textures of different things (seeing shapes )etc. And …. Life and how it looks.
Q3: What are your techniques?
I don’t have a set of universal techniques. I try different things a lot. Many times I borrow techniques from tutorials and tailor them to my needs.
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
Really depends on the piece. I like primal emotions. like fear, lust, rage and try to convey a particle of those feelings in my characters (with many not so good results :)). But I don’t like oversimplyfing human behaviour.
Like for example a palladin, great, noble warrior that’s righteous isn;t perfect. he can be an alcoholic in my world. or have a fear of rodents I like to invent a story for a character. The more dimensions the story has, the more belivable it is for me and hopefully for the audience.
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I suck at color <laugh>. That beeing said I don’t have an particular favourite color. In my opinion color should be subdued to value. If something doesn’t read well in black in white – it won’t read well in color. Other than that it’s the use of other hues, tones, values and saturations gives that one color it’s fullnes.
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
Everything I am at the beginning of the journey, and honestly I don’t want to settle for anything. There’s room for improvement for everyone.
From more practical stand point – I tackle one weakness at a time. If I find my values are weak I study them. If after a month of hard studying I get better at values I find my material indications sukcs, so I study it etc.
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Yeah, but for now it’s a secret.
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of TatarskiSkandal.
I will describe myself with 2 words. “Fighting procrastination”.
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
It’s not my first work ( I haven’t posted it anywhere ). But definetely the beginnings of digital painting for me.
HERE It was done with a mouse. I had no Idea what I was doing, no reference. Study was an abstract term (too lazy to do it).
A lot of color dodge and smudging. Sorry you have to see that.
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
Well. Everything. From understanding values, composition, color, to effects, materials, use of reference, study, workflow and time spent . The first one (the burning angel) took me maybe 35 hours. My latest piece took me maybe 20 – 22 hours.
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
I never named it. Maybe both. It’s what I want to do for the rest of my life.
