She, who weaves nightmares
by sashulka

Q1: When did you start making art?
7 years ago. I just wanted to make some simple animation in Macromedia Flash and I was searching some lessons for it. At one russian forum I found lessons of drawing beatiful works in Photoshop.
It was like an explosion. I bought a Wacom tablet soon and that was the start of my new life as an artist.

Q2: What does inspire you?
Everything around me. I read a lot of books in various genres, like to observe nature around me, I like to go to museums, watch scientific films, and I’m interested in photography too. Also I collect
artbooks. I have two shelves with various artbooks and I like to use them when I need some inspiration. For the last time I find huge inspiration in cartoon films of Hayao Miyazaki too.

Q3: What are your techniques?
Digitally I usually work in Photoshop, at the pleasure time I like to draw on paper with pencil and liners. I don’t have only one technique of drawing from sketch to complete image, I like to explore different ways to draw something.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
Every work is individual unification of feelings and ideas, I cannot single out the main idea.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I don’t prefer some color. I prefer some color combinations of warm and cool tints, and they differ from one work to another.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
For the first I want to add more sense to my works, make more works with story, learn how to draw environments and vehicles good. I preferred to draw only beautiful girls before, but not long ago I decided to develop my drawing abilities in various areas and genres.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Yes, I have some, but I don’t want to talk about them before starting to work.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of sashulka.
Dreaming, curiosity, oddity.

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
I cannot find the very first drawing, but HERE is the earliest that I can find. It was my third work in Photoshop and at the same time it was first serious work. I wanted to show silence of night, beauty of female body and gracefulness of panther, but I don’t think I did it good.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
Of course my techniques changed for better. I understand much better how to use colors. And the main thing is that I see beauty in other things now. Earlier I saw beauty only in drawing pretty girls,
but now I love trees, cars, underwater animals, space, airplanes and many other things. I mean beauty of this things for me as for artist.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
The first one. When I begin to think about drawing I forget about all troubles in my life. Everything that I cannot change in my life normally I can change digitally. That’s why I think to be an artist is the best occupation.

  Love this art!
