Year of birth: 1989
Q1: When did you start making art?
About 4 ½ years ago when I started learning the basics and got into art school.
Q2: What does inspire you?
I get inspired by a lot of things! Mainly the work of other artists, video games, movies and music.
Q3: What are your techniques?
I create all of my digital 2D art in Photoshop.
For my 3D art I mainly use Zbrush and 3DS Max.
I also paint, draw and sculpt traditionally.
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
I really like to create monsters of different kinds. I like things that are macabre and twisted and that have a personality to them. I wish I could create things that are cute and fluffy, but when I try they always ends up with razor sharp teeth and drenched in blood, haha
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
My art is usually very dark and gloomy. I don’t really have a “main color”, but I like to use complementary color schemes when I paint.
If I would have to choose a color combination I would say red and green, because blood is red and green is reds complementary color 😉
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
I want to improve everything about my work, but mainly I need to learn to spend more time on my work before I call it finished. I know I can get a better result that way, but I get bored fast unfortunately.
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Yes. I am currently working on a horror game for the Oculus Rift. I can’t talk too much about it at the moment but it will scare your socks off!
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of RamenRamen.
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
My very FIRST work? Haha, oh my god, alright. This is from about 8 years ago. HERE
This is the first digital drawing I ever did. I first sketched it out with a pencil on paper and then scanned it in to the computer with a scanner. I did the line work with the mouse and then colorized it with the bucket tool.
I think it still hold up; I should put this into my portfolio!
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
I started out trying to draw manga characters, but I had no idea what I was doing and I got really frustrated when I wasn’t able to get the results I wanted (my “sexy girls” looked like men).
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
I’m not sure. Art is something I just have to do to be happy with myself. When I want to escape from reality I usually play a lot of video games and I don’t get a lot of work done. And then I feel bad for not doing art.
I really need to fixate on an idea of what I want to create before I start a new piece. I have a hard time just sitting down and just draw something that ends up reaching my own standards.
