Q1: When did you start making art?
As long as I remember, it was always the main thing I wanted to do. But like taking it seriously – that was maybe when I was 15 years old.
Q2: What does inspire you?
My dreams and scenes that appears before the eyes right before one falls into sleep. Then games, music, old photos and forgotten things and places.
Q3: What are your techniques?
I use mainly just pencil and graphite powder in combination with pc coloring.
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
I always wanted to be able to capture essence and visual feel from dreams, to stop a picture that even as a single could tell some story or evoke to think about some. I don’t like to explain or describe what about my pictures are, even if I know (which sometimes I don’t), because I like to read how others people interpret them.
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
When I look at my pictures, they’re mostly sepias/greenish, but I like to think about them in purple…if that does make a sense :D. Like…feel from them is purple… that color fascinates me, it’s heavy, dreamy, unreal and it slips away if you try to catch it, like something from between worlds.
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
I would like to be able to do something more wild, emotional, rough… something like german expressionists. Just wild gestures, agressive work of colors, few lines, strokes and yet you feel extra strong emotions from it… but I’m unable to shut off my meticulous control and whenIi tried it, it always ended up horrible or overdone.
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I do, but i shouldn’t be talking about that or it will not come out 😀 Right now I do have some things shaping up, like some comics and series of illustrations, but nothing really certain yet.
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of MadLittleClown.
That should be on others, I’m not objective. But I guess – reserved, disturbed, dreamy.
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
I have no idea from which point I should pick some work as a first. But according to deviantart it could be for example this HERE (oh damn, I really don’t want to look at that). Back then I was looking for the right technique, that would suit atmosphere and feels that I wanted to get into pictures and I was in love with old etchings. But of course I had no laboratory with acids etc. So I tried to imitate that effect just with inkin really amateurish way.
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
I guess themes stayed the same – trees, girls and weird demons. But now when I have some idea, I have more clear knowledge how to catch it on paper in terms of technique, composition etc,. I found out that ink so too hard for my need and I’m better just with pencil that allows me more free approach and I did learn to use computer coloring the way, that it keeps the traditional feel. But besides of that not much changed in terms of artistic interest.
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
Both, probably, in balanced way. Anyway, I don’t like this ‘escaping from reality’ phrase, when people are saying that about comics, games, art etc. I feel it’s more like bringing something from different reality into this and so making this one more enjoyable.
