We Only Come Out at Night
by jacintojc

Q1: When did you start making art?
My earliest memory was of me drawing endless circles on a piece of paper, I wish I still have that now.

Q2: What does inspire you?
Anything that evokes a sort of power, from people to experiences to mundane objects. You can be visually inspired by anything, even the things you hate.

Q3: What are your techniques?
I prefer to call it “process” or “voice” rather than technique, I’m academically trained as an artist and there you can learn most techniques, that doesn’t make it mine. Anyway, I usually destroy, blemish or corrupt my own artworks, a practice I really enjoy doing.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
For audiences there’s a brewing tension in my pieces, you know something bad is going to happen but you don’t want to miss it, you want to witness everything even if you don’t agree with it, there’s something voyeuristic about taking pleasure in seeing something destroyed.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
Main color, hmm… Most of my works are toned down, monochromatic is prevalent because it takes away the romantic keys of designing, you are not stuck with the ‘beauty’ of colors and its meanings. The images are in-your-face. I mainly use my colors for composition, not as a trademark or anything.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
Improvements are more based on the quality of destruction, if there are going to be changes I don’t think about it a lot, I just keep working and as I do that, the evolution of the art happens. I’m not an artist that plans and plots everything, I relish the element of chance.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Yes, I have projects lined up for the up coming years. Exhibits, public art events and more.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of jacintojc.
Insane, unsentimental, sincere

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
Check out jacintojc on Deviantart, it’s funny how you can totally see the difference of my older pieces to the ones I’m doing now. Art evolves with the artist and I know I might change what I’m doing in the future again.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
Everything, I continuously explore and through that, you discover new things, even your mindset and sensibilities change, even brush strokes and materials change. You just end up doing what you’re comfortable with and sincere about in the present, and it’s a different story the day after that. Constant evolution my friend.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
I really think it can be both at the same time, escaping from reality is an effective way to balance your life. In a way, I don’t really see it as “escaping from reality”, Art is the essence, or the purpose of my life, it is my reality, not theirs.

  Love this art!
