year of birth: 1985
Q1: When did you start making art?
Q2: What does inspire you?
In general, I am inspired by scientists and artists with free spirit and unconventional creativity. My artwork is influenced mostly by David Lynch (especially his short films), Nikos Nikolaidis, Vienna Actionists and stoner rock/metal. Paradoxically, I think that in general I am not quite influenced by other photographers (with few exceptions).
Q3: What are your techniques?
I use many different techniques depending on the photo project. All the techniques have in common the use of black and white colours and the high contrast. I enjoy taking photos with a lower shutter speed and use of many different sources of light, such as headlights, flashes etc, from different directions. I am totally uninterested in graphic processing of photos.
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
It would be useless trying to describe the main idea or the main feeling behind my works, as the images are much stronger than the words.
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
Until now black and white, because I find it more classical (I adore classical artists) and because it reminds me of a different, more interesting era of photography.
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
I would like to have a wider variety of topics and photo projects.
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I am planning to take some photos which will be confusingly erotic (not BDSM though) and adapted to my style.
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of Giorgos Lianos.
Unconventional, experimental, obscure
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
HERE I was using a Sony DSC-T20 camera. I think the main idea and feeling behind my works is the same all these years, but as the time goes by I am always trying to find and create more extreme photos.
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
Since 2009 I have been using a full-frame dslr, which can provide a much better quality for my photos with lower shutter speed. I am also using higher contrast in black and white tones.
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
Art is expressing your inner self and creating your own world.
