year of birth: 1991
Q1: When did you start making art?
Honestly I started making art as soon as I could pick up a pencil and do it. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t do the arts.
Q2: What does inspire you?
I really enjoy dark and macabre themes, they became a huge inspiration to me in my later teens. Of course I still will always love the cute side of things which is why I mix so much of the two together in my art. There’s just something about the innocence of cute contrasted with creepy that I love so much! And adding to that, fashion also heavily inspires me. Creating outfits for my characters is the next best thing to creepy/cute!
Q3: What are your techniques?
I’ve been a digital artist for a long time now, but recently have been adding traditional parts to my art for certain pieces creating a mixed media. I love watercolours and ballpoint pens and have been using them on and off, as for my digital paintings flat brushes are always my fav!
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
Depends a lot on what characters I’m drawing for but most of it is usually emotional in some form, I use my art a lot to vent out my inner thoughts whether they may be feelings or obsessions. I also really enjoy focusing on the individual and like to make my piece’s feel relatable to the viewer rather then reflecting on whole aspects of society.
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I like to use a lot of muted reds, purples and blues. I’m not really sure why, I guess I just really enjoy painting with those colours as they’re pleasing to me.
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
I’d like to improve more on backgrounds and perspective, also movement. Sometimes I still feel my characters come out a little stiffer then I’d like and want to acquire a certain roundness so everything flows nicely and I can get the emotion of their body language across.
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I have a webcomic project I’m working on right now and hope to get my story written by the end of summer so I can start working on the actual pages! It will be featuring these two: drawkill.deviantart.com/galler…
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of DrawKill.
Creepy, Cute, Strange
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
This HERE isn’t my very first work, I don’t know if my very first work exists in my presence anymore but this the oldest in my DA gallery that I haven’t ended up removing from the site yet. This was from 2011 I had won a giant pack of prisma colours so I wanted to colour a fun picture with my new pencil crayons. Unfortunately prismas colours are too grainy to my liking (I prefer a smoother texture) and I definitely had a lot to learn about colouring with them at the time. But I still had fun with the piece!
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
Well I don’t really work with pencil crayons much anymore, so I guess that’s one thing. Another is I know how to make objects that are closer pop out more from the background objects so they don’t all look like one glob mess.
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
Definitely escaping reality. I get to live a different life in the moment of drawing and get to be with or become my character, I like to lose myself into my art while listening to music.
