year of birth: 1976
Q1: When did you start making art?
Started as a kid but didn’t get serious until 7-8 years ago. Decided to actually try.
Q2: What does inspire you?
Music. Usually extreme metal. Sometimes they create the most beautiful soaring sounds and melodies–perfection. I’d like to hit those notes now again in imagery.
Q3: What are your techniques?
Pencil sketch, ink over that and watercolor.
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
To try and create something that is visually imaginative, beautiful and harmonious.
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I work in all color schemes. Some are very bright, some are dull and washed out. Depends on the mood.
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
Always trying to master composition, contrast and value-matching. These are far more difficult in my mind that just “being able to draw.”
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I’m booked through 2015 already!
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of ChrisPanatier.
Attempt, Grow, Repeat
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
ThisHERE isn’t my first work (I deleted that long ago), but this one was drawn only 2.5 years ago. This piece of art I think truly demonstrates how practice drastically improves your skill.
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
All that changed was persistence, experience and practice. Now my stuff looks dramatically better. HERE‘s an example.
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
It’s a challenge and an opportunity to grow. It’s an opportunity to make something that brings others joy (hopefully) when they look at it.
