year of birth: 1988
Q1: When did you start making art?
I’m big fan of art from the earliest period of my life. From elementary till high school I was trying to find myself through all kinds of creative work and fields of art, but I was never completely satisfied with any media. On my first year of art history college, when I was 18 years old, I bought my first digital camera and the love was born.
Q2: What does inspire you?
Everything can inspire me, people, movies, dreams…really everything, but I must confess that I’m a little bit lazy, having long periods of stagnation, waiting inspiration to find me, instead of me chasing inspiration.
Q3: What are your techniques?
First I imagine the way photos would look like, the main idea of the shoot and the story behind it, find the locations, props etc. Then, in post production I work in photoshop to the level I want the pictures to look like, somethimes it’s a little bit of retuch and sometimes I manipulated with the pictures a lot. Each work requires different combination of techniques.
Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
It depends, but I could use words like conceptual, dreamy, dark, surreal, fairytale, classic.
Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I prefer more black and white photos because colors do not disturb the main idea, so the essence is more visible, but despite that I also have works in color, because some photos are just not made to be black and white.
Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
There is lot to learn, both in shooting (tehnical stuff), but also in postproduction (photoshop and other editing softwares). I still see myself as a begginer and amateur who needs to learn everyday. Why? Because it always can be better than it’s right now.
Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
Before few months I started project ”They are gone – Stories about death, loss and transience”. All the photos from that series made by now were published on Vogue Italia website in my portfolio. I’m planning to keep working on that.
Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of bubastis2.
Stubborn, introverted, loyal.
Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
Most of my first works was deleted from my computer and internet cause I was not satisfied with them after years. But few of them are still online like this one HERE for example. It was captured with the cheapest compact camera in automatic mode. At that period I didn’t know anything about photography, I just wanted to capture the light coming through room window.
Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
At first I used compact camera and photographed only in automatic mode, also I was more interested in street and documentary photography. At that period I was one of those people who hates photoshop considering it as death to photography. Now I learned a lot about tehnical stuff, how to shoot in manual mode, invested in dslr, lenses, tripod, filters, flash… Also I fell in love with photoshop and the creative abilities which he gives to the artists. Now I am more interested in conceptual, fine art and fashion photography. I think that’s the main difference. I’ ve changed the point of view to photography.
Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
For me it is more escape from reality.
