Q1: When did you start making art?
I have always been into creating art, but I started doing digital art in 2007. I was mainly into web design at first, then tried illustration. Finally I found my passion was in photo manipulation and mix media. Overall, I didn’t start to become serious about it until around 2011.

Q2: What does inspire you?
The dark and macabre. Any kind of elegant grotesqueness or darkness. I find tons of inspiration in movies, and books since I like to present a character or story more than represent a certain emotion. I also love high end fashion.

I also love people. I love thinking about how other people experience and react to things. I love strong emotions like obsession, despritness, or hate.

Q3: What are your techniques?
I don’t really have a certain technique. I do try and go for a more photorealistic look, though it’s still quite stylized.

Q4: What is the main idea or feeling behind your works?
Most are dark, and slightly dreamy. I want to present something that is more subtle in it’s unusualness.

Q5: What is the main color of your art and why?
I use a wide variety of color, though most are dark, deep and a tad bit desaturated. Overall I would say I use blue to portray calmness and hopelessness. Red to convey power and malicious intent, purple to convey elegance, and blacks and greys to convey emptiness.

Q6: What would you improve about your work and why?
I want to try and create more detailed scenes, and also work on my overall color as it often feels lacking.

Q7: Do you have any project for the future?
I am in the very early stages in planning an art series, but other than that no. I am just trying to improve, experiment, and grow.

Q8: Describe yourself with 3 words capturing the essence of AbbeyMarie.
Peculiar, dark minded, and light hearted.

Q9: Show us (link) your very first work. Describe it from techniques till feelings.
Well, the oldest you can easly find is “Calm” which can be found HERE.
It was created in Photoshop CS3, and was back when I wanted to remove everyone’s face. The overall feeling I wanted to convey was a “gross calmness”. Finding peace with the unusual.

Q10: What did change from your first work till now?
More color, more detail, and stronger concepts.

Q11: What is art for you? Escaping from reality or the essence of life?
It’s a way of trying to understand myself and everyone else around me. I have never been someone who could properly articulate how I feel or explain things in a way where other people understand what I am saying. I want my art to be my way of communicating with other people, and how I study and learn about the human experience.
